YouTube is a video sharing platform which has both a website version and Application version for mobile devices. Google has already implemented a new feature to the desktop version, known as “Dark Mode“. Enabling which would switch the UI from light to dark them.
But, this version is missing in Android Application. If you want to enjoy the YouTube Dark on your Android device right now, then don’t worry. XDA member AL_IRAQI was able to turn on YouTube Dark Mode on Android by modifying a value in app preferences. But, this method requires to modify a file located in the /data partition and it is necessary for the Android device to be rooted.
So, in this article, I am going to provide you the steps to enable the YouTube Dark Mode on your Android Device. But, before doing this, you have to complete certain things which are important and without doing them, it is not possible to enable this feature.
Prerequisites
Before starting the steps to enable YouTube Dark Mode on your Android, you need to check the below-listed points and complete them.
- The most important point is that your Android Device should be rooted with SuperSU or Magisk.
- This method will only work for devices running Android Oreo, Nougat, Marshmallow, and Lollipop.
- Download and install Preference Manager app from Google Play.
Steps to Enable YouTube Dark Mode On Android
Step 1: First, go to the app drawer and launch “Preferences Manager“.
Step 2: Now, grant root permissions when prompted.
Step 3: Tap on the menu icon (3 dots) and select “Show system apps“.
Step 4: Search the list and find “YouTube“.
Step 5: In the “youtube.XML” tab search for “dark“.
Step 6: Now, look for the “theme_dark_app” and “theme_dark_watch_panel”.
Step 7: For enabling the YouTube Dark Mode, simply change values from ‘false’ to ‘true’.
Step 8: Now, you have to save the settings.
Step 9: Finally, force stop the YouTube App and Relaunch it to enjoy the dark theme.
After doing the last step, you will notice that bright white background in the YouTube app will be replaced by dark grey color.
