Computer’s primary hard drive or external hard drive that was connected with your Windows 10 computer may sometimes report errors. So checking hard drive partitions for errors every once in a while can help determine what exactly the errors are.
In this article, I am going to tell you the steps for checking and correcting the disc error with CHKDSK in Windows 10. The disc error can usually be caused by bad sectors, improper shutdowns, bad software, corruption, physical damage, etc. But you can fix them without any hassle.
Since Windows 10 disk errors aren’t common, in addition, the causes vary from bad sectors, improper shutdowns, malware, corruption, physical damage, etc., it’s demanded to have multiple ways to check disk errors in Windows 10.
Microsoft has designed chk disk utility. This tool is used for detecting and fixing disk corruption. Microsoft also introduced a new file system called ReFS, which does not require an offline chk disk to repair corruptions. As this file system follows a completely different model to spring back into shape and hence does not need to run the traditional chk disk utility.
The disk is periodically checked for file system errors, bad sectors, lost clusters, etc., during Automatic Maintenance and you now no longer need to really go and run it.

Step 3: And then simply click on the Check button in order to check the errors in drive and file system.
Step 4: Once the scan is complete you will be asked to check the disk if the system detects that there are errors. If no errors are found, you will see a message – You don’t need to scan this drive, just click on the Scan Drive.
Step 5: When you clicked on the scan drive, scanning starts and the process of scanning is done in very few minutes as it will take less than 5 minutes.

This means that any data potentially stored on them, have failed, even if your operating system didn’t realize it yet.
