Every year a new Apple iPhone launches with all new exciting features. With the launch of iPhone X, Apple has surprised their customers by removing the Home Button form it. While nothing can be done about this missing feature, for now, there are other features too that have been changed in iPhone X. One of such function is the change of Device Firmware Upgrade(DFU) mode accessibility.
In this article, I am going to give you the proper demonstration for using this DFU mode on new iPhone X. But before going further, let me give a brief about what is DFU. So, Device Firmware Upgrade mode or DFU mode is the smarter way of restoring an unresponsive iPhone back to its factory settings. Also, this mode is used to troubleshoot complex issues like the upgrade and downgrade firmware and also customize the firmware for a jail broken device.
Now, let’s start the tutorial with the easy steps for putting your iPhone X into DFU Mode.
Before you start diving onto it and maybe damage your device, its always recommended to first take a backup of your iPhone iOS Device.
Steps to Enter iPhone X into DFU Mode
Note: Before starting the steps, please make one thing sure that you must have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer. And also, take the data backup before starting for extra safety.
Step 1: The initial step for entering the DFU mode is to connect your iPhone X with your computer via iTunes. Wait for sometime to fully connect with the software and when the iTunes launches automatically, you are done connecting with it.
Step 2: Now, switch off your iPhone X by going to Settings and then to General. In this section, scroll down to the bottom of the options and tap on Shut Down.
Step 3: Finally you see a message, Slide to power off. Just slide it. Your iPhone X will be shut down.
Note: In the above process of Shutting Down Your Phone, make one thing sure that your phone should be connected to your computer all the time.
Step 5: After 3 seconds, now press and hold the Volume Down button located on the left side along with the Power button. Which means you have to now hold both the buttons for 10 seconds more.
Step 6: After 10 seconds, now you have to release the Power Button or Side Button but keep pressing the Volume Down Button for more 5 seconds (Approx). Suddenly you see a message on your iTunes window.
Step 7: Now, after seeing the above message, quickly release the Volume Down Button also.
Step 8: After this, you will see the black screen on your phone which is the sign of success. Now, you have successfully entered the DFU mode on your iPhone X. The iTunes will now Restore your iPhone by sending an alert to you.
Note: If you do not see the Black Screen or see “Plug into iTunes” screen, it means you have entered your device in Recovery Mode. Now, you have to repeat the above steps again in the same manner but with more accuracy.
How to Check Whether Your iPhone Entered DFU Mode or Not
After completing the above steps, your iPhone X is 100% entered into DFU mode. But, if you have any doubt and want to check it anytime you want, then at the time doing the process, if you notice some points which I am going to tell you below then you have done something wrong.
1. After completing the process, if iTunes doesn’t show the message “iPhone has been detected and can be restored“, means it didn’t enter DFU mode.
2. If your iPhone shows an iTunes logo, this means you had performed some steps wrong and entered your device into Recovery Mode. So, you have to first restart your device to get out of Recovery mode and start again.
3. If your iPhone X shows Apple logo, it means that you have restarted the device because some of your steps are not performed correctly.
4. And the last factor which shows your phone in DFU mode after completing the steps is that your Screen Turns Black. If it will not, that means it’s not in DFU mode.
Sometimes some users entered the DFU mode with iPhone X just for trying or by mistake and the next big question on their mind is how to take the exit? The answer is very simple. Once your phone will successfully restore, it will get out of this mode itself. If not, you can easily do it by simply restart the device by holding down the power button and volume down button until you see the Apple logo.
So, this is all for this guide. You can try this with iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus also. If you want to share something with us, please comment below. Your suggestions and comments are always welcome.
