STEP-1: Connect your router to the modem
The first thing you have to do to setup your router is to connect your router to the modem with the help of Ethernet cable. Connect your modem to the Internet port/WAN port of the router. The WAN port is a different color as compared to Ethernet port.
STEP-2: Connect one computer through an Ethernet cable
You have to connect at least one computer with the help of the Ethernet cable to adjust your router settings. You can also connect wirelessly to the router by disconnecting the Ethernet cable.
STEP-3: Find IP address of your router which you want to setup
After successfully connecting your computer or laptop to the router you have to find the IP address of your router you can look for the IP address on the label of the router or you can search the router model on the web to find out the default address. Most of the IP address of the router is like 198.168.2.1 or something like that.
STEP-4: Now open the web browser on the computer or laptop which is connected to the router
Now open the web browser on your computer and enter the IP address of the router in the address bar of the web browser. Your web browser will connect you to the router’s configuration menu. You can also run the router’s configuration program from the installation disc come with your router.
STEP-5: Fill your Username and Password
When the configuration page is open you need to enter the valid username and password for the login process. If you are not able to enter the correct username and password then you can search for your router model number in the web browser for the default login. If you have changed it then press the reset button available at the back of your router to restore the factory default setting.
STEP-6: Open Wireless setting
When you successfully log in to your router, the router main menu will be open on the screen which contains various options to choose from. This wireless section will allow you to setup your personal wireless network. Until you received the specific instruction from your internet service provider the internet section will be left at the default setting.
STEP-7: Enter SSID or a specific name for your wireless network
In the wireless section, you will find a field with SSID or name where you have to enter a unique name for your wireless network. This unique name will be shown on the other device when they are scanning for the network. Keep in mind to enable the SSID broadcast this will turn on your wireless network so that it can be seen by anyone in the range of your network.
STEP-8: Choose the best security options
After giving a unique name to your wireless network you should choose the best security options available. For best security for your network choose the WPA2-PSK option from the list as this security option is most difficult to crack and will provide you high-level security from the external users and hackers.
STEP-9: Create a passphrase on your wireless network
The next step after you choose the best security option for your wireless network is to enter a passphrase for the network. Now here you have to choose the most difficult password which should be a combination of letter, symbol, and number. Never use an easy password which can be easily cracked as it will create a lot of risk to your personal wireless network.
STEP-10 Finally save your all settings
When you finally finish naming and providing security to your personal wireless network then you need to save you all setting by clicking the save or apply button present at the bottom of the page. This will take few moments to apply those changes to your router. Your wireless network will be enabled once all the settings are updated and finished resetting.
