As you know that you may have little to no control over the automatic update feature of Windows 10 if you don’t know how to disable the Windows Updates and completely turn it OFF.

How to stop automatic updates using the Registry

These are the steps that you can use to stop automatic updates with the help of registry.

Step 1: Open the Run command box simply by pressing the Windows key plus R i.e (Windows key+R).

Step 2: To open the registry, type Regedit, and press on the OK button.

Step 3: After that enter the text written below in the search bar

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Policies/Microsoft/Windows

Step 4: Once your desired path is open, right click on the window option and further select NEW and then press on KEY option.

Step 5: The new key now opened, named it as  WINDOWS UPDATE and then press the ENTER key.

Step 6: Now right click on Windows Update file and follow the same step as done in step 4, i.e select NEW and then press on KEY option.

Step 7: The new key now opened, named it as AU and then press the ENTER key.

Step 8: Now click on AU filE, and then right-click on the right-hand side of the AU file and select New, and click on DWORD (32-bit) Value.

Note: Select your version i.e 32-bit or 64-bit

Step 9: With the help of a keyboard, type the word AUOptions as the name of the new key and then press enter.

Step 10: Now double tap on the AUOptions key, a new box appears and then change its value using desired options

5– Allow local admin to choose settings

Step 11: After choosing the options click on OK button and close the directory.

How to prevent automatic updates using the Local Group Policy Editor

These are the steps that you can use to stop automatic updates with the help of Local Group Policy Editor. If you don’t understand the above steps, then follow this method which will work equally like above.

Step 1: Open the Run command box simply by pressing the Windows key plus R i.e (Windows key+R).

Step 2: To open the registry, type gpedit.msc, and press on the OK button.

Step 3: After that enter the text written below in the search bar

Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update\Configure Automatic Update, as shown in the figure.

Step 4: Move to the left side and check the enabled policy to enable the policy.

Step 5: Once you click on the enabled option, several choices are there, now have to choose one from them

3– Auto download and notify for install

4– Auto download and schedule the install

5– Allow local admin to choose settings

Step 7: Press on the Apply and then click OK to complete the whole procedure.

Simply with the help of these steps, one can easily turn off the automatic update in Windows 10. These two procedures are properly verified and tested by me also. Now, you can easily get rid of the windows update problem and do your work effectively.
