This smartphone comes with AOSP Stock Android 7.1.1. For developers, this smartphone is best for rooting. For rooting this device, Unlocking the bootloader is the first step. This is an important process that will partially unlock the Android system that runs on your handset.
In this article, I am going to give your proper guide to Unlocking the Bootloader of your Moto G5 Plus Android Smartphone. So, let’s start with some important points to remember.
Before starting the actual unlock operation you first have to consider the prerequisites list down below:
- Unlocking the Bootloader is considered as the complex process. For this, you need a computer or a notebook along with your phone and its USB cord.
- Make your Moto G5 Plus charge fully to 100% to avoid any technical error.
- Take the full backup your phone, because this process may wipe your data.
- Operations like rooting, unlocking bootloader and flashing are not recommended by the company. Doing these may void the Warranty of your phone.
- Don’t use the below-given steps on any other smartphone or tablet.
Steps to Unlock Bootloader on Moto G5 Plus
Before starting the procedure, keep one thing in mind that this method is only for Moto G5 Plus. If you try to experiment it with another phone, then it might be possible that your phone will become brick. So, read all the steps very carefully and follow all of them one by one on your phone.
Step 1: Enable the Developers Option
Unlocking the bootloader is the first step towards rooting your device, which is the ultimate purpose of most of the Bootloader unlock. This is the hidden option and you have to enable it to allows bootloader unlocking. For this, go to the “Settings” and then head towards “About Phone” at the end of the settings menu.
Now scroll down and tap the “Build number” option seven times rapidly. After this, you will see a message “Congratulations, you are now a developer!”.
Step 2: Enable OEM Unlocking
After enabling the Developers Mode, now go back to Settings. There you will see the Developers Option is now available. Now, tap on the “Developer Option” and enable the switch next to the “OEM unlocking” setting.
Step 3: Enter into Fastboot Mode & Connect to Your Computer
After enabling the OEM Unlocking, now its time to put your phone into bootloader mode. To enter this mode, you can do this with an ADB command. But, if you want an easy method, follow this method: Restart your phone, and when the screen goes black, press and hold the volume down button and power button. Within a few seconds, you will see the bootloader menu.
After entering the Bootloader Menu, now leave your phone as it is and connect it to your computer system via USB cable.
Step 4: Install Fastboot on Your PC
After connecting your phone to the computer system, now install the ADB and Fastboot. You can install the latest version of these from Google. Installing latest version is recommended because older version does not support all the commands. For downloading the ADB and Fastboot, Click Here.
Now navigate to SDK and go to platform tools and right click while pressing the Shift key.
Step 5: Open Command Prompt in Windows
While the phone is connected to your PC, to check this, enter the following command in the command prompt window:
Now, type “adb device” and if you see a serial number then your fastboot is correctly configured, so proceed forward.
Now, to unlock Moto G5 Plus bootloader, enter the following command:
fastboot oem unlock
The above command will unlock the Bootloader of Moto G5 Plus. After this command, you have to give another command for rebooting your device. Write the following command at the end:
Now, you can disconnect your phone from your computer now, but note that the first time your device boots after unlocking the bootloader will take longer than usual. Now, restart your phone and run through initial setup again. You are done now, the Bootloader of your Moto G5 Plus is now Unlocked. Now, you can easily root your device.
