Xiaomi Mi A1 is the first smartphone from Google to partner with Xiaomi after 6 Months of the unsuccessful journey on Android One Project. After its launch in September of last year with a presentable list of specifications including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625, 4GB RAM/64GB storage, 5.5-inches full-HD IPS display, dual 12MP+12MP camera on the rear, a 5MP camera on camera, and a lasting 3080 mAh battery, most developers are trying to root this device.
At the time of launch, it was powered by Android Nougat but received the Android Oreo update in January. But, if you are looking to again update the OS to Android 8.1 Oreo unofficially, then this article will be helpful to you. In this article, I will give you the detailed steps to LineageOS 15.1 on Xiaomi Mi A1.
The official LineageOS 15.1 was released a week ago with new changes, features, and exclusive wallpapers. But at present, it is not officially available for Xiaomi Mi A1. So, XDA Member “abhishek987” has found the Unofficial way of installing the Android 8.1 on this device. The developer has provided a list of hardware which works, including the important things such as RIL, fingerprint sensor, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, camera, video recording, VoLTE, and more.

Prerequisites
- First, you have to Unlock the Bootloader of your Xiaomi Mi A1.
- You must install TWRP recovery on Mi A1, in order to flash this ROM.
- Install the ADB and Fastboot on your Windows or Mac PC. For this, you can check the articles.
- Make you charged at least 70% to avoid any trouble at the time of rooting.
- Take the backup of your Android device. If the data get lost, this backup will help you after.
- The process of rooting, unlocking bootloader and flashing is not recommended by the company. Doing these may void the Warranty of your phone.
- This article contains steps for Xiaomi Mi A1 only. Don’t try it on any other smartphone.
Download Xiaomi Mi A1 LineageOS 15.1 ROM
For installing the LineageOS 15.1 (Oreo 8.1) On Xiaomi Mi A1, you have to download some required file. The links are provided below.
ROM: lineage-15.1-20180306-UNOFFICIAL-tissot.zip File.
GApps: opengapps.org (Platform: ARM64, Android: 8.1, Variant: Your choice)
Steps to Install LineageOS 15.1 on Xiaomi Mi A1
Step 1: First, you have to download the above files from the link provided above.
Step 2: Now, you have to connect your device to PC.
Step 3: After connecting the phone, now transfer the files to Phone Storage.
Step 4: Now, switch off your device and boot into TWRP recovery mode. For this, press and hold the Volume Up and Power button simultaneously.
Step 5: After you entered into TWRP mode, go to “Wipe” -> “Advanced Wipe” and select the checkboxes named as Dalvik/ART cache, System, Data, and Cache.
Step 6: Now, Swipe the button to wipe the device.
Step 7: Go back to the recovery main screen and tap on the “Install” button.
Step 8: Now, you have to navigate to the file which was transferred earlier from the PC to SD Card named as “lineage-15.1-20180306-UNOFFICIAL-tissot.zip“.
Step 9: Finally, swipe the button on the screen to install LineageOS 15.1 on Xiaomi Mi A1.
Step 10: Once the above steps are completed. Now, you have to flash the GApps ZIP package in a similar way.
Step 11: When the flashing process is complete, reboot your device.
After installing this ROM, you will be able to use Android 8.1 Oreo on your Xiaomi Mi A1 device. It might be also possible that it contains some bugs. But don’t worry, in the coming week these errors will be fixed.
