Being a developer, I used to Install much applications and software to try and test new tools of our Industry. After 4 years of working perfectly, my Mac Computer Started to Slow and Lag. 1. Using Activity Monitor
If you want to investigate that which apps are consuming or using your system, open activity monitor in the “utilities folder”. It will show all the processes on your mac, so click on view and the window processes, Now click on the CPU button and the CPU column to list all programs by the amount of CPU they are using. A new feature in Mavericks is Energy that enables you to see which apps and processes are using up the most amount of energy from your battery.
2. Close Unnecessary applications
Most of the times Mac OS X leaves the application running in the dock, even if you click the red “x” button – it will still remain running in the background, this causes your Mac to run slowly. The applications marked with a dot in your dock, right-click on them and click “quit”.

3. Turn-off Visual Effects
To turn off the visual effects, click system preferences> Dock and uncheck the following:
Magnification, animate opening applications, automatically hide and show the dock and turn off accessibility. Click the minimize windows using and change the genie effect to scale effect.
4. Minimize or manage your Startup Folders
To manage the startup programs, open the system preferences window by clicking on the apple menu icon and selecting “system preferences”>”users and group” icon and then selecting the current user’s account and click the “login items”. Untick the programs that you want to remove from this folder.

5. Cleaning up Launch Agents
This is one of the hidden features in Mac, that are tiny helper applications which run secretly in the background and starts other software automatically without you knowing. To clean up launch agents download CleanMyMac3, to download click here, then extensions> launch agents to clean the junk.
6. Clean up your Hard Drive
