Note: Unlocking the bootloader on your Moto Z2 Force device will void its warranty completely and delete/wipe all data on the device. Before doing it, make sure to backup your important data like Contacts, Photos, Videos, Music and other files on the device to a safe place.
Before starting the actual unlock operation you first have to consider the prerequisites list down below:
- Unlocking the Bootloader is considered as the complex process. For this, you need a computer or a notebook along with your phone and its USB cord.
- Make your Moto Z2 Force charge fully to 100% to avoid any technical error.
- Take the full backup your phone, because this process may wipe your data.
- Operations like rooting, unlocking bootloader and flashing are not recommended by the company. Doing these may void the Warranty of your phone.
- Don’t use the below-given steps on any other smartphone or tablet.
Steps to Unlock Bootloader on Moto Z2 Force
Step 1: Enable the Developers Option on your Phone
The initial step to Unlock the Bootloader on your Moto Z2 Force is to Enabling the Developers Option. This is the hidden option and you have to enable it to allows bootloader unlocking. For this, go to the “Settings” and then head towards “About Phone” at the end of the settings menu
Now scroll down and tap the “Build number” entry seven times rapidly. After this, you will see a message “Congratulations, you are now a developer!”.
Step 2: Enable OEM Unlocking
After enabling the Developers Mode, now go back to Settings. There you will see the Developers Option is now available. Now, tap on the “Developer Option” and enable the switch next to the “OEM unlocking” setting.
After this, you will be asked to enter your Device Pin or Password to continue. Once you enable this feature, your phone will be will now be able to accept the Fastboot command that unlocks the bootloader.
Step 3: Enter into Bootloader Mode & Connect to Your Computer
After enabling the OEM Unlocking, now its time to put your phone into bootloader mode. To enter this mode, you can do this with an ADB command. But, if you want an easy method, follow this method: Restart your phone, and when the screen goes black, press and hold the volume down button. Within a few seconds, you will see the bootloader menu.
Step 4: Install Fastboot on Your PC

Step 5: Open Command Prompt in Windows
This is the most important and toughest part, most of the user struggle with ADB and Fastboot. For doing it properly, locate the platform-tools folder inside of your ADB and Fastboot installation directory. If you are Windows user, you can find this at C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools.
For Linux and Mac users, the folder’s location will vary, so use your computer’s search function to find the platform-tools folder. After finding the platform-tools folder, copy the location from the address bar at the top of your file browser.
Now, open the command prompt or terminal window and then change directories to the platform-tools folder before you can send the Fastboot command to unlock your bootloader. For doing this, type “cd” (without the quotes) followed by a space, then paste in the file location for your platform-tools folder.
Step 6: Unlock the Bootloader
While the phone is connected to your PC, to check this, enter the following command in the command prompt window:
Now, type “adb device” and if you see a serial number then your fastboot is correctly configured, so proceed forward.
Now, to unlock Moto Z2 Force bootloader, enter the following command:
fastboot oem unlock
The above command will unlock the Bootloader of Moto Z2 Force. After this command, you have to give another command for rebooting your device. Write the following command at the end:
Now, you can disconnect your phone from your computer now, but note that the first time your device boots after unlocking the bootloader will take longer than usual. Now, restart your phone and run through initial setup again. You are done now, the Bootloader of your Moto Z2 Force is now Unlocked. Now, you can easily root your device.
