Steps to Unlock Bootloader on Xiaomi Mi A1
Before starting the procedure, keep one thing in mind that this method is only for Xiaomi Mi A1. If you try to experiment it with another phone, then it might be possible that your phone will become brick. So, read all the steps very carefully and follow all of them one by one on your phone.
Step 1: Enable the Developers Option on your Phone
The initial step to Unlock the Bootloader on your Xiaomi Mi A1 is to Enabling the Developers Option. This is the hidden option and you have to enable it to allows bootloader unlocking. For this, go to the “Settings” and then head towards “About Phone” at the end of the settings menu.
Now scroll down and tap the “Build number” option seven times rapidly. After this, you will see a message “Congratulations, you are now a developer!”.
Step 2: Enable OEM Unlocking
After enabling the Developers Mode, now go back to Settings. There you will see the Developers Option is now available. Now, tap on the “Developer Option” and enable the switch next to the “OEM unlocking” setting. See the image below for your reference. After enabling this, your phone will be will now be able to accept the Fastboot command that unlocks the bootloader.
Step 3: Enter into Fastboot Mode & Connect to Your Computer
After enabling the OEM Unlocking, now its time to put your phone into bootloader mode. To enter this mode, you can do this with an ADB command. But, if you want an easy method, follow this method: Restart your phone, and when the screen goes black, press and hold the volume down button and power button. Within a few seconds, you will see the bootloader menu.
After entering the Bootloader Menu, now leave your phone as it is and connect it to your computer system via USB cable.
Step 4: Install Fastboot on Your PC
After connecting your phone to the computer system, now install the ADB and Fastboot. You can install the latest version of these from Google. Installing latest version is recommended because older version does not support all the commands.
Step 5: Open Command Prompt in Windows
While the phone is connected to your PC, to check this, enter the following command in the command prompt window:
Now, to unlock MI A1 bootloader enter the following command:
fastboot oem unlock
The above command will unlock the Bootloader of Xiaomi Mi A1. After this command, you have to give another command for rebooting your device. Write the following command at the end:
Now, you can disconnect your phone from your computer now, but note that the first time your device boots after unlocking the bootloader will take longer than usual. Now, restart your phone and run through initial setup again. You are done now, the Bootloader of your Xiaomi Mi A1 is not Unlocked. Now, you can easily root your device.
